June 2023 Architectural Standards Amendment Meeting

Discuss proposed amendments to the ARC guidelines

Tuesday June 16, 2023

6:30pm

Meetings are still being held virtually.

While well intentioned, the format for the meeting unfortunately did not allow for the proper context of the amendment proposals. Much of the discussion was about the proposals in a vacuum which led some community (and board) members to voice concern about needing additional regulations that, in many cases, already exist.

There were a few voices who talked down to the proposals because they personally did not see the value. Instead of considering the application to the community as a whole, they loudly proclaimed that since they did not see benefit, clearly no one else would. Lastly, there was one voice who claimed that proposals to allow taller fences would be 'unfair' and 'might receive push-back [from the community]', despite the patio and deck amendment passing a few years ago under similar circumstances without issue.

It was hopeful to see that HOA rules could be written in the interest of the wants of the community instead of being a set of mandates without logic or reason - even with the loud distractions.
